Precast hollowcore plank has become widely recognized as one of the best materials for building commercial structures because of its stable, safe, and intrinsic nature. Precasters are finding more and more people deciding that they want these qualities in their homes as well. While one might think that you cannot achieve these qualities while retaining comfort and style, the Windemere Residence on Lake Minnetonka shows that integrating precast into a homes design can actually add to the overall quality.
Precast allows homes to be supported solely by the foundation enabling wide-open floor plans. Precast enabled the Windemere Residence to incorporate a parking garage in the basement, which was essential for constructing a house of this size on an island lot.
The precasters installation crews erected 7,440 square feet of precast hollow core plank, 306 lineal feet of beams, and 45 lineal feet of columns. This was done by the crew starting at one end of the island and working their way out. Finding a solid location for the crane was a challenge. With innovative thinking concerning placement of the crane and its outriggers, constructing the Windemere residence was simply another achievable test in the field.
Precast concrete products can be designed and manufactured in practically any shape. The circular figure shown in the picture is one of the many possibilities customers can utilize in order to fulfill unique ideas for particular rooms. The overall layout of this luxury home creates a fish shape. Through the ability of the precaster to design, produce, and install complex shapes, the Windemere Family was able to see their vision come to life.
